Having a clue about the kit I was going to listen to, I expected him to have a very senior job, but that was not the case. I wondered how he managed to afford this very serious hifi collection. His wife interrupted: "Ask him what he doesn't spend money on."

This kind of camera is for those who can actually make money out of it, those who can afford any expensive toy, and those who have that singular commitment that they will give up all but the essentials in other spending.

My hifi friend said, "I have the cheapest car I can find; I don't care about cars; I care about sound."

(I have spent far more on photography, over the past seven or eight years, than I did in thirty years of hifi.)
(My camera kit is worth far more than my 11-yr-old car. Although I have to add the context, to that one, that it is a great car, and I have no wish to replace it)

Lol, that's a common complaint.

We always prioritise something for others.

Oh absolutely, and if that's not enough, we can always throw in a lung for the extended warranty.

Jokes apart, it's just a middle-class mentality. Read the story of https://www.hifivision.com/threads/my-b-w-speakers-journey.66969/, how he sustained a costly hobby.

Thank you. Food for thought.

I guess... It is what the photographer set out to do. To show off the fine detail capable with the lens and camera. It does so, splendidly, so it is being used as marketing material.

What I wonder is: couldn't a full-frame, with equivalent lens for depth of field, etc, do just as well? I'd be interested to hear the why/why-not from more experienced photographers

Not a professional photographer, but I doubt it. At the end of the day, when it comes to details, the sensor size plays such a big role. The X2D has a 100 megapixel medium-format sensor. The amount of raw detail it can capture can never be reproduced by something like a 26 megapixel sensor imo. The raw files themselves are something like 200 - 400MB. That might be too big of a difference to cover with just software intervention.

Now whether this will lead to a better image or not is a different conversation entirely, but the freedom to be able to crop in 3x and still have a very high resolution image sounds incredibly liberating.

IMHO it is possible yes, but in a single click may be NOT, Even DOF should be possible with a suitable lens in one click ,if not stacking is there, but for detailed image like this, stitching is the only alternative I can think of, even that won't work in practice because model would definitely move little in between

In that aspect it is definitely an image which is unique to the camera, however I do feel that it can turn out to be counter-productive in certain cases, but then again anybody using such an expensive equipment will most like be a pro and would know what they are doing

In this case is it really an advantage? not bashing Hasselblad or Medium frame, but just a thought, I can see all the imperfections even small bits eyeliner dust or whatever it is called, not commenting on the model or the makeup person also, just the outcome in this perticular use for portraits it might be a disadvantage
