Title: Portable USB charger for Nikon EN-EL15 batteries
Post by: chrome on July 12, 2023, 03:11:25 PM
Looking for a portable charging solution for Nikon EN-EL15 batteries.
This DigiTek USB charger is the only one I've found but comes with Digitek branded batteries. This looks to be USB type-b unfortunately but there's no alternative I could find. I do actually a few spares as well but would like to know if these are reliable.

This was available a few months ago at ~Rs. 2000. Looks like now it is being sold by an international seller. The price is exorbitantly high.

I am using a Nitecore UNK2, which I had a friend purchase and bring from the USA. It is robust and extremely portable. It is only slightly larger than the EN-EL 15 battery itself and the cable can be folded into the device itself.

I can see the Nitecore UNK1 on Amazon India website, but it has only 1 slot for EN-EL 15, and the price is on the higher side too.
Found the UNK2 on the below site, but I have never heard of this site. Not sure how reliable it is. They seem to have most Nitecore products.

Thanks. Getting one from outside will not be possible anytime soon. Hoping to find something in India soon.

Using the Nitecore UNK2 for more than 3 years now. Works very well. Got it mainly for my road trips but now I also use this as my daily charger.

I got it from Lightorati only. Here's the contact number of Vamsi(owner) 90300 27300

Cool! Thank you. Going to travel to Hyderabad this month end. Have some Nitecore products in mind. Gonna visit and try hands on.

I have a Nitecore dual charger for another camera battery and it feels very well built and seems to work quite well.

On a slightly unrelated note, Smallrig has recently introduced Sony NP-FZ100, Canon LP-E6NH & Fujifilm NP-W235 compatible batteries with USB-C ports on the batteries itself, allowing them to be recharged using mobile chargers and power banks and eliminating the need of carrying dedicated battery chargers while travelling. These are currently available in the USA and will hopefully become available in India in the coming few months.

No mention of EN-EL15 battery from them.

Coming back to the threads main objective, found this battery charger from SmallRig. Looks promising but out of stock  :-\

Just an update - Smallrig has also introduced a Nikon EN-EL15 compatible battery with the USB-C port.

I've recently brought one each for Fuji & Sony through a relative coming from US and they are working perfectly as advertised.

Hopefully Smallrig will make them available for sale in India soon.

Update: Bought a KnF USB charger. It has both type-c & b ports. Working as intended; shame it has no battery percentage reading!
