Title: Need cam suggestion for a noob.
Post by: arunsankar on July 22, 2023, 03:40:42 PM
Hello all, I'm looking to buy my first ever camera for street photography, portraits and some casual events. As I'm restricted with only 25k budget, I hope some of you can provide me with better options within the budget. Yes of-course, one can't expect the brand new with the said budget, But I'm looking for a second hand one.

And as a additional favor please share the points to check before buying a second hand camera. Hope I get some good inputs regarding the camera and its buying tips :)

Go to any ecom site & look (sort) for a camera within 30k - 50k, then shortlist those models & look for local guys who rent the same models, try few models before making up your mind because when you will meet people with different models other than yours, you would have mixed reactions (doubts) about your decision, once you made up your mind, start hunting.

I would also suggest that you sir down and make a list of what features matter to you - do you need an EVF/OVF, fixed or zoom lens, interchangeable lens or fixed lens, size of camera. Would you be comfortable with pulling out a tiny point and shoot camera or something like a fuji 100 s when pointing the camera towards people?
Here's my list for you...use it as a starting point
Nikon 1 J1 with 10mm or 30-110mm lens..beware the 10-30mm lens often developed aparture errors and would be hard to service now a days as Nikon no longer supports these. You can expect the camera for as little as 4-5000/- . I have bought the camera + 10-30 (faulty) + 30-110 for 10,000/-
Sony RX 100 series camera. Fixed zoom lens. Tiny camera you can put on your belt loop. Look for features you want and choose your model accordingly.
Fujifilm x100T Fixed lens fixed focal length. Not very bulky but can't fit this in your jeans pocket either. x100s would be a bit too old & anything newer than x100T would cross your budget.
Fujifilm xT1/xT2/xPro1 with used lens of your choice. You can choose XC series of lens over XF for similar lens optics but they lack some features like weather sealing.
Fujifilm XM1 if you can find it - though note that it does not have evf/xe1 or better xe2 or xe2s with same lens options as mentioned above.
Then there are micro 4/3 systems but I have never used them so would not comment.
Do note that there is a strange new trend now a days of using old point and shoot CCD sensor camera. I think you must have one camera of this sort either with you or with your friends&family and it is a very good way to try out just to gauge which features you would want, which would be good to have and which you can live without.

Hope this helps a bit. Regards

Even 6100 available now here. Sure, it is much higher price, but it is a new generation of Sony aps-c.
