Title: What is faulty- camera or lens ?
Post by: hvyas on October 01, 2024, 11:26:55 AM
I have Olympus EP1 with kit lens Oly M.Zuiko Digital 14-42mm 1:3.5-5.6. The camera does not auto focus, does not display menu and main dial buttons don't work. However, live control ( on the screen) works with main and sub dials. It works in manual focus mode. Pictures are recorded on the sd card but only the last one can be viewed on the camera. On pc all pictures can be viewed and processed. Question is- what is faulty- camera or lens and how to test ?

Did you put another lens on the camera to check if the same thing happens ??

Deepak, I don't have another mft lens to try but with an adapter I have used Pentax manual lens, which works. However, no manual display and all same problems. I can set iso, aperture, shutter etc with live controls using main and sub dials. I think, as you said, another mft lens is needed to test or with a working mft camera my lens need to be tested. this kit lens is motorised and I have read it somswhere that without mounting mft lens menu display not possible. Very tricky situation. Thanks for your quick response.

It seems that you have some issue with the camera - either a firmware corruption or a hardware problem. Better get it checked. Regardless of what the camera does with adapters and manual focus lenses, you should be able to see your images if the SD card works alright.

Yes Nishit I, too, feel something is wrong with the camera and it needs to be checked. But unfortunately a couple of known repairers here in Mumbai couldn't help. Also I couldn't locate any Olympus service centre.Anyway thanks for your response.
