I've never done any film scanning. Maybe, one day, assuming that any negatives I still have hidden away haven't all stuck together in a solid lump! Oh, I have slides too: this would not help with them.

This is, of course, an all in one. But most of us have the imaging device already: our camera. That is the most expensive component.

On another forum, I recently came across a recommendation for this very-modestly-priced film holder, that can be used with a modest light source. A camera stand would be nice, but can probably be improvised.

What most people really lack is time and the willpower to do a boring, repetitive task for long. Someone could make a lot of money scanning negatives for others.
