Note: I purchased this and several monopods to see which one I liked best. I now have the Smallrig 6283 which is MUCH larger and has wider feet for my long tele lenses. The 5564 is more travel friendly and quite small in size in comparison with the 6283 which will matter to those who travel light and travel on 2-wheelers.
What does a monopod do? A quick search will give you all the benefits. In addition to that, I have used this monopod as a light-stand for Godox AD100/ AD200 flash heads. It takes a fraction of the floor space compared to a conventional light stand and can be neatly tucked away.
YES it will stand safely at the lowest height with a long tele lens and camera. Even fully extended, on level ground, it will stand but I ALWAYS recommend using a safety strap just in case. This is NOT a tripod.
Some additional pictures of how light/small this is in hand and how tall it extends.
Finally a picture showing the 5564 alongside my 6283 to show you the difference in size. Both extend to almost exactly the same height but the 5564 is more compact and easy to travel with. Fits in most bags without removing the feet/ball-head.
The Smallrig 6283 is DEFINITELY a heavier built product with longer feet for more stability. Why do I need the upgrade?
1. Because I am bored...
2. Because I do plan to acquire either a 400/2.8 or 600/4 Sony lens in the near future. While I am sure the 5564 will do the job adequately, Point #1 is a cruel mistress.
