I was lucky to get my Sigma 30 used, on this forum. Whilst they might be "budget" options, the Sigma DC DN quartet are still a substantial amount of money!

You can go downmarket. There's Samyang, Vitrox, etc etc. The Samyang 45 tiny has a good reoutation. I bought a Samyang 35/1.8 (full-frame) and wasn't happy with it. On the other hand, my Samyang 135 delighted me on aps-c and still delights me full-frame.

Remember that you can use FF lenses on your 6100. Whilst FF often means bigger, heavier and more expensive, that is not always the case. And any FF lens in your collection will be fully ready if you buy a full-frame camera in the future.

Manual mode means you decide the power output of the flash (and the zoom setting if it has the feature). It does not do TTL exposure adjustment in this mode.

This mode works well in macro photography, especially if one is photographing a skittish insect that might fly off with the pre-flash that's required for TTL. Manual gives you accurate control on flash power.

Quote from: DeepakS on January 25, 2025, 12:41:29 PMIt depends. For most budget flashes, if you set your flash to manual mode in low power and the batteries are fresh, you may get 2/3 shots in a burst before the flash switches off to recycle. Practically that means that in a burst of 5 shots, the first 2 may be lit by flash and the balance 3, not. Generally speaking, you cannot reliably depend upon a cheap flash to support burst mode.

Manual mode as in? The flash will sync with camera right or I am misunderstanding something here, won't the external flash will work similar to on-camera pop-up flash?

Quote from: Nishit Dave on January 25, 2025, 01:22:06 PMThe refreshed version of the 16-50mm kit lens is said to be better than the older version. It's a nice little lens that can be quite useful in good light.

If you're not concerned about a lens without stabilisation, the Sigma 30mm f/1.4 can be a good option. If you want a stabilised lens and a narrower field of view is not an issue, the SEL 50mm f/1.8 OSS is a very affordable and good lens. The 35mm f/1.8 OSS has become costlier of late, so I'm not suggesting it.
I am considering buying a SEL 50mm f/1.8 OSS for now but Sigma 56mm one has got my attention. Don't know if I'm going to wait and gather little money to purchase it.

Quote from: Thad E Ginathom on January 25, 2025, 03:04:34 PMI went full-frame a year or two ago, but was using an a6500 before that. The Sigma 30/1.4 (DC DN, iirc) would be a great choice for a "standard" (45mm FF equivalent) lens for general photography. There is a trio of reasonably-priced Sigma aps-c primes: 16, 30 and 56. O, I just googled: there is a 23 too. Had I remained with aps-c I would have bought more of that range. f/1.4 makes them particularly good for low-light/indoor pics. If I had stayed aps-c I would have bought more of that range.

(My a6500 is still my travel camera, and the lens that I keep on it is the Tamron 17-70/2.8, for general snaps. But I still love a fast prime best)

(My avatar pic was taken with the Sony 50/1.8 aps-c lens. Of course, it's cropped, but it is a close-up headshot, indoors, not much light)

Yeah I was looking into Sigma line up as well. Liked 56mm f1.4 quite a bit. But little out of my budget range. I am trying to get it from 2nd hand market , if not I might wait a bit gather money and buy that.

You've got a great all rounder tamron 17-70 Nice..
