The weather was real lousy I remember and mostly cloudy and grey through our drive from Kargil to Padum

Wonderful. Kargil to Padum at a stretch?... do you remember how long it took you? that must have been some ride.

A visit to Ladakh three decades ago would certainly have been an adventure, compared to today! TFS.

Yes went upto Padum.
I think it took two and a half  or three days ! It was just a full on kutcha road all the way through !

Oh sure it was and then some ! And we had gone into Ladakh, up the Manali Leh route too ;-) Had to sleep the night at Darcha nullah and only cross in the morning !
