Chikhal Kalo is a traditional mud festival which celebrates the childhood of Krishna. We drove for an hour in pouring rain to reach the Devi Krishna temple in South Goa. We were greeted by a torrential downpour and squelching mud. I was worried about the drenching that my camera and lens were going to be subjected to. But amidst the fervour of the participants and bystanders, the neverending rain and the sea of mud, one could ignore minor discomforts and revel in the 'back to nature' moment! 'Mud Bath' seemed like a metaphor for the eternal bond that exists between farmers and mother earth...a far cry from the sanitised, soporofic and spotless life in the city.
