I truly am shocked that they are shutting down what is the photography equivalent of wikipedia.
Gear: Fuji XT-20, Fuji XT-5, 23 27 50 mm Primes.

It was started in England, bought by Amazon in 2007 and moved to Seattle, USA after that.
As part of its lay-offs Amazon is shutting down DP Review and Kindle services and various other smaller concerns.

Unless some other company steps in and buys it, DPReview will stop existing on 10 April

Funny, thats precisely what came to my mind too Doc  ;D

Never been a big fan of DPR. Always found it infested with far too many fake accounts/trolls for my liking. To the point that it was becoming increasingly difficult to tell the chaff from the grain. The fact that it would unabashedly promote a certain brand above all else didnt help. I used it sometimes only to check factual data like 'specs' (it might, as you say, qualify as a "photography equivalent of wikipedia") or when I was in mood for some pawky humour. And maybe for onions. But rarely, if ever, for opinions. Compared to DPR, I found Goodreads from the same stable, a far more credible source. Wonder what'll happen to them now.

But the thing is - regardless of how good a site/resource is construed to be, its usefulness/reach/footfall is controlled entirely by Google (net-neutrality having died an unceremonious death). And unless they can cough up some serious money that'll keep them floating at the top of searches, indirect revenue websites are destined to languish at the bottom of the pages to bleed to a slow death.

The message has always been loud and clear - Monetise or fall by the wayside !
YO, YO, YO ! Seven-Zero-Zero to the 0 to the 5 to the 4 - representin' the K-O-L. What up, B-Yatch? Leave the phone.

Shutting down kindle services?
Is that likely to brick all online kindle content?

Looking for a Rokinon/Samyang 135 F/2 Lens in excellent condition.

Also looking for a few Canon NB-10L Batteries.

Too bad they are shutting down DPR.
They should have sold it to someone instead of shutting it down.
Still hope someone will rescue it.

Amazon is shutting down Kindle Newsstand, getting out of the news and information business.
Books will still be there.

There's some good news in this regard. As per an update published on the website today (https://www.dpreview.com/site-news/8298318614/dpreview-com-looks-forward-to-a-new-chapter-with-gear-patrol), DPReview.com has been acquired by Gear Patrol (https://www.gearpatrol.com/) and will continue to operate as it was before, with all editorial coverage and site features remaining the same, and all historical content accessible.

While it's difficult to predict the direction the website will take under the new owners, the fact that all current and historical content will remain accessible is very good news as there's a lot of useful information about gear and photography in various articles and especially the forums on the website.

I'm really happy to see that Kindle books remain.  I'd hate to see the ones I bought vanish.
