Was looking for a good zoom lens in the wide to medium telephoto range (i shoot mostly from 30mm (mostly videos) to 70mm (street photography) on aps-c) for my Fuji X-H1 and wanted to ask which had better optical performance both for photos and videos.
My main thoughts:
1. Tamron offers better low light (f2.8 vs f4 which is about 2 stops better in full frame terms) but suffers from contrast and purple fringing issues at f2.8. also, centre sharpness and contrast are not too good at f2.8. There's also issues with colour rendition. Would like to stay away from having to edit every jpeg i take.
2. Fuji has less fringing and better stabilisation (i've *heard* that the Tamron has jitters in video) but worse sharpness especially towards 80mm (where i need it). And of course there's the lower F-stop.

Size/weight/price are not a concern. Both are mostly similar in these 3 respects.
What are your experiences with the optical performance of the Tamron 17-70? Sony users can also chip in.
Also, if anyone knows about in camera corrections for the Tamron, that would very helpful!

Update: used the Tamron 17-70 for a few months and am mostly satisfied with the purchase!
1. Great sharpness and image quality, no visible vignetting
2. Focal range is good enough to cover both the wider and telephoto ends
3. The f2.8 is a huge advantage over f4 especially in low light, and of course for bokeh.

Video stabilisation is decent, there are only a few jitters which happen if the IBIS and OIS don't match maybe 1% of the time.

The only con is the heft of the lens, even on my X-H1 it was slightly front-heavy. So probably only good for the heavier X-H cameras.

Have you tried Sigma 18-50 f2.8 before going towards tamron? Would like to hear your take on both.

Have not been able to, but from what I've seen, the main tradeoff going from Sigma to Tamron is the extra 20mm focal range for almost double the weight & size. (Image quality is great on both)

You should observe some of your best photos and see whether they are taken beyond 50mm. If yes, then maybe it's a good tradeoff to make. Just make sure you have IBIS if you're planning to stay with the Sigma.

I would want to try the Sigma out if that makes me carry my gear out more often! The best camera is one that you always have with you.
