I have a canon camera, the old 5D classic for the last 3 years and thought of getting a 6D Mark I version. Since 6D carries similar color profile like the 5D, capable of recording 1080p video, i almost found a minimally used 6D with 24-105 F4 kit lens. But there's equally a conflicting thought - to try a different camera and not stick to a similar Canon FF.

And then the interest grew on Nikon FF DSLRs. While there are so many FF from Nikon to choose - D610, D700, D750 - I'm inclined towards D800, which is better built, and i am assuming it doesn't demand a hefty price in the used market. Purpose is mainly landscapes. For portraits i may continue to use the 5D until it lasts.

D800 looks like it's not so common like D810s / D750s, finding a reasonably priced used one is difficult?

Having owned 2 different brands in the past I would recommend against it.

The idea that I'll use X for portraits and Y for scapes sounds simple in principle but gets immensely frustrating in practice.

You'll end up duplicating lens or carrying too much gear.

Just my opinion.

Wish you hadn't taken that statement seriously. I'm completely open-minded about this and i may change opinion as i start spending time with the gear. I assume shooting with Nikon would be a different experience (i want to experience), D800 could be bought for a reasonable price and overcome the limitations of the current gear. May be i end up liking one camera more than the other, not sure at the moment.

You could get the D800 and give it go. if you like it, move over completely.

Changing brands and getting the same FL lens you'd prolly end up losing a bit of money.

If you have Canon glass that you like, I'd stick with Canon and upgrade to a Canon FF mirrorless (R8, R6II) I use the  R8 personally and it's a damn fine camera.

If your canon lens lineup is solid then I'd also suggest against shifting to Nikon. Getting a Canon mirrorless would be a better choice.

On the other hand, the Nikon D800 would certainly be a step up in terms of resolution and it's one of the cheapest high MP bodies in the used market. Ergonomics would be a key factor when trying new system. I'd suggest renting one before you make up your mind.
Shoot stuff I guess?
